Morning Spent Amongst the Vines

We often take for granted how close we are to the Hunter Valley Vineyards. It literally sits in our backyard, and what better way to end the working week than a Friday morning spent amongst the vines.

Drawing on four generations of winemakers, our first stop was McGuigan Wines who pride themselves on their energy, drive and uncompromising dedication to their craft.

Our first half of the tasting came from their Single Batch Project, these wines are handcrafted in single batches, ensuring that the last bottle opened always tastes as good as the first.

Next up was the much-anticipated Shortlist. Challenged to produce a shortlist of Australia’s most celebrated wine style, this is a collection of their winemakers most prized expressions of variety and regions.

The Global Brands Liquor staff favourite? The 2017 Shortlist Riesling.

A fresh, crisp and well-balanced wine, perfectly matched with shellfish, oysters and delicate seafood. In other words, just bloody delicious.

A winery tour to see where and how the magic happens and then we were off to our next stop, Tempus Two, literally just on the other side of the road.

Tempus Two was founded in 1997 by the Mcguigan family, hence the close location. Tempus Two describe themselves as ‘elegance with attitude’, they are the vogue of the wine industry, even partnering with Mercedes Benz fashion week.

But rest assured, it wasn’t just all good looks, it tastes good too.

Our last tasting of the morning (yes, all before noon) was the Altitude Collection from Nepenthe. And did you ever see such beautiful colours lined up in front of you?

Descending from the Adelaide Hills, these wines are proven and emerging varieties that excel in the cool climate, exhibiting genuine variety character with a distinct sense of place.

And what better way to end the morning then with some lunch at Goldfish over looking Tempus Two.
