De Bortoli Wines

Now in its 90th year, De Bortoli wines is the second largest family owned company in Australia.

“For us here [Hunter Valley], we are the smallest part of the family”, explains Assistant Manager Robert Travers. “But when it comes to production, because we are all about tourism here, we get lots of tourists. When it comes to production, etc- minimal”.

Originating in Griffith, where their headquarters remains today, De Bortoli also has two other locations, plus two other vineyards without cellar doors, across Australia.

“We have been here [in the Hunter] for 14 years. The amount of wine we produce in Griffith is more than the entire Hunter Valley put together. The company makes approximately 250 different products, we have enough room to stock 100 or so here”.

When it comes to Hunter Valley product we currently have 1 wine available. On the property here we grow chardonnay, merlot and shiraz”.

As a company what makes De Bortoli famous is their Noble One dessert wine.

“In Australia we have wine shows and that is the most awarded wine Australia has ever produced. In our wine show system, it has won us 465 gold medals and 152 trophy’s. So basically anyone who makes a dessert wine that is the bench mark”.

“That is really what we do best and what puts us on the map”.

“Outside of that from the Yarra Valley in Victoria Pinot Nior would be one of our main stays, I am led to believe we are the number one producer when it comes to volume of Pinot Nior in Australia, quality wise we would be top 5”.

It’s evident De Bortoli are doing a lot of different things with different grape varieties. For example, their newly released Fiano & Greco wine, which Robert admits “I had never had this before” and is paired perfectly with seafood.

Global Brands Liquor work closely with the local De Dortoli team focussing not only on their great regional selection of wines including Yarra Valley Pinot Noir, King Valley Pinot Grigio and Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, but also a great range of on premise only brands such as Willowglen, Vivo and Lorimer.
