Still deciding what to do for Dad this Father’s Day? You really can’t go wrong with a cold beer and a bloody good feed.

But why not step it up a notch this year?

Whether you choose to stay in attempting to cook up a feed yourself (let’s be honest it will probably result in a BBQ and dad taking over), or you’re venturing out to he’s favourite pub, get the best out of both by knowing which food is going to compliment the beer best.

Rule of thumb: the lighter the beer, the lighter the food should be

  • Pale Lager
Pair with: Light foods like chicken, salmon and salad

  • Pilsner
Pair with: Sweet and spicy foods like tuna and salmon

  • Pale Ale
Pair with: One of the more versatile beers, perfect with grilled meats or mild and medium cheeses

  • India Pale Ale
Pair with: Strong, spicy food like curry

  • Dark Lager
Pair with: Spicy, heavy food like German or Mexican cuisine

  • Brown Ale
Pair with: Hearty foods like pork or sausages

  • Stout
Pair with: Roasted and smoked foods like a barbeque

However, everyone’s palate is different so if dad likes stout with fish then let him go right ahead, it is he’s day after all.
